Frequently Asked Questions - Stafford Borough Planning Applications

FAQs - Called In Planning Applications

Local Councillors and Planning Committee members can ask for planning applications to be determined by the Planning Committee which is made up of elected Councillors ('Calling In').

In Stafford Borough in excess of 90% of applications get dealt with by the Planning Officers, in accordance with the relevant Neighbourhood Plan (- where in force), the Local Plan and National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Where there are local concerns that may need specific consideration an application can be referred to committee. Although just because an application is 'Called In' does not mean that it will automatically be heard by committee as 'Call Ins' can also be withdrawn, if for example a plan is amended or concerns have been addressed appropriately, as part of the planning process.
Against Stafford Borough's Local Plan, which was adopted in June 2014 and is in force until 2031.

Anyone can comment on a planning application by visiting the public access area on the Borough's website (www.staffordbc.gov.uk/planning-public-access) or by writing to the Borough Council.

Most planning applications have a target of being determined in eight weeks. Larger applications can take thirteen weeks.
