- Acounts for 16% of all violent crime and yet is the violent crime least likely to be reported to police with more repeat victims than any other crime, with an average of 35 assaults before the victim calls the police
- Is the single most quoted reason for becoming homeless, after the loss of a tenancy
Raising awareness and offering support is key to turnng victims into being survivors.
I have supported Staffordshire Women's Aid with the opening of the Stafford refuge, raising funds to help with the fit-out, at a time when 32 refuges nationally have closed, between 2010 and 2014, due to funding constraints. I continue to lobby Central Government on long term funding for supported accomodation, including refuges.
